For those looking for a compact family SUV that balances practicality and driver entertainment, the Jaguar E-Pace is one to add to the list. This sporty and stylish alternative to some very talented rivals, such as the the Audi Q3, BMW X2, Mercedes-Benz GLA and Range Rover Evoque, is the smallest member of Jaguar's 'Pace' family of SUVs, joining the larger F-Pace and I-Pace electric SUV.As with other Jaguar products, the E-Pace continues to make use of aluminum construction to minimise weight and benefit on-road behaviour. Combine this with a range of strong engines and this smart family SUV could prove to be more appealing to those who aren't looking for outright space and comfort. The E-Pace was updated for 2021, with the main focus being on the interior. There's a new climate control system and 11.4-inch touchscreen with Jaguar's latest Pivi software. Both are slick, intuitive to use and bring the baby Jaguar in line with bigger and more expensive offerings from the firm. Higher-spec models come with plenty of leather lavished across the interior – including the dashboard and doors. The Jaguar E-Pace isn't a huge SUV so front seat passengers naturally do better for room, but those in the back may start to grumble on longer trips. There's plenty of headroom for all, but there's little foot space underneath the front seats and a limited amount of room for legs to stretch out. Two adults will fit comfortably enough to cover a long journey in here, but they may want to get out and stretch after 90 minutes or so. The middle pew is best reserved for shorter people, and the car's high window line can make rear passengers feel a little hemmed in. Access is quite narrow as well, which could be awkward for larger adults or when having to wrestle with child seats.For extra utility there's a 1800kg braked towing capacity on some all-wheel drive cars providing you specify one of the optional tow bars – there are electronically deployable or detachable versions. In terms of storage space, you get two cupholders up front, a generously-sized lockable glove box addding a further 10.1 litres of space, and the door bins that almost run the length of their panels come with moulded bottle holders.
