The Hyundai i30 Tourer was first unveiled at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show complete with up-to-the-minute styling, a cavernous boot and that very attractive five-year warranty. With all that to boast about, the Korean car maker is now setting its sights on company car staples like the Ford Focus, VW Golf and Vauxhall Astra. It's fair to say that the estate version of new i30 has gro wn up. Grown-up estate Not only is it 185mm longer than the hatchback it's 10mm longer than previous model. That means a big old boot. Load space – with the seats in place and up to the load cover – is 528 litres; a 140-litre increase over the hatchback's. Again, those increased dimensions mean Hyundai can preen its feathers, at least for a little while. The Tourer's boot is bigger than those of its key rivals including the Ford Focus Esate that offers 476 litres and the Vauxhall Astra Sport Tourer that has 500 litres of loadspace. And that's not all: the i30 Tourer has a maximum load capacity of 1642 litres which beats the 1502-litre boot on the Focus and 1550-litre offering in the Astra. In fact, the load space on the i30 Tourer is best in class.Hyundai i30 Tourer safety features are many and varied. Expected to achieve a five-star EuroNCAP rating in crash testing, the new estate features active safety systems such as ESP, a stability management system, ABS, emergency brake assist, hill-start assist and emergency stop signal – which flashes the hazard lights when an emergency stop is detected. There's also six airbags as standard. The Hyundai i30 Tourer practicality is – somewhat predictably – better than the hatchback. The boot capacity is 528 litres, expanding to a theoretical maximum of 1642 litres when the rear seats are folded down. There's enough room for four adults to be seated comfortably, while the interior contains adequate cubbies and cup holders. The cockpit of the i30 Tourer is very similar to that of the hatchback model. The high quality materials carry over, while the drivers' seat is comfortable and the controls well-positioned. The dash lighting is a stylish blue colour, while the plastics are a mixture of shiny gloss and soft-touch textured black. Visibility is excellent and the driving position is well-conceived. Hyundai i30 comfort levels are outstanding – this really is the car's trump card. The seats are extremely comfortable and supportive, making this a very nice place to spend extended period of time without feeling worn out. Company car drivers will love this car for its mile-munching capability. There's not much in the way of engine, road or wind noise either. Of special note is the ride quality, which is impressively supple and absorbent. When combined with the comfy seats, the i30 Tourer really is a nice place to spend your time.
