We are proud to offer what is unquestionably one of the finest examples of the 1981 MG MGB GT LE currently on the market – a rare, beautifully preserved collector’s piece with just 45,140 miles from new and factory-original paintwork.
This Limited Edition GT is one of only 580 cars ever produced, built to commemorate the end of MGB production in 1980. This particular car, chassis number 031006, is believed to be number 6 of the 580 cars built, placing it right at the beginning of the production run – an exceptional piece of British motoring history. Finished in its unique and original Pewter Grey Metallic, available only on the GT LE, this example represents the last chapter of one of Britain’s most beloved sports cars. It is a pure, unrestored car that remains remarkably true to how it left the factory – making it a true time capsule and a standout example for serious collectors.
Mechanically, the car is as impressive as its appearance. Powered by the 1.8-litre B-Series engine and fitted with the desirable four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive, it delivers the classic MGB driving experience with added long-distance refinement. It starts on the button, runs sweetly, and offers a tight, responsive drive thanks to a life of careful maintenance.
The car still wears its original 13” Dunlop alloy wheels, factory front chin spoiler, LE side stripes, and correct badging. Inside, the original grey cloth interior presents beautifully, with unmarked trim and dash, a period-correct stereo, and no aftermarket modifications. The factory-fitted heated rear window, rear fog lamp, and other GT refinements are all present and working.
This MGB GT LE benefits from a comprehensive service history, having been maintained to an exceptional standard by previous enthusiast owners. It has recently undergone a full health check and inspection, and everything operates just as it should.
Why is this car so special? As the final and rarest edition of the MGB, the GT LE occupies a significant place in British motoring history. It marks the end of an 18-year production run and represents the final evolution of a true icon. With its low production number, exclusive colour, and unique styling, the GT LE is already a rising classic – and this example, with its early build number, low mileage, and originality, stands among the very best.
Whether you're a collector or enthusiast, this GT LE is an ideal addition to any serious garage.
As with all vehicles offered by Position One Motor Company, it has been through a full specialist inspection. Finance options and extended warranties are available. Part-exchange welcomed.
